Today class we are going to be learning about Solar and Lunar eclipses. Lets start with a Solar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon gets between Earth and the Sun, and the moon casts a shadow over Earth and blocks the sun.
That makes sense
Now for Lunar Eclipses. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind Earth and into its shadow. When the moon goes into the earths shadow you can not see any of the moon.
There are 2 types of shadows that happen during a Lunar and Solar Eclipse. Those two types of shadows are called umbra and penumbra. The umbra is the darkest shadow and it is the smallest shadow. The penumbra shadow is not as dark and it is bigger.
