- Society is merely a term people use to explain the limits they place on behaviour. It does not exist physically but mentally.
- This creates order and stability in society.
- How is order and control created?
- Even though society exist mentally, people act as though society is a real force having an effect on them, limiting and controlling their behaviour.
- Social conflict- looks at society as a competition for limited resources, tensions and conflicts arise when resources & power are unevenly distributed between groups in society.

- I saw society being made up of individuals in different social classes who must compete for social, material, and political resources like food and housing, employment, education, etc. Social institutions like government, education, and religion reflect this competition in their inherent inequalities and help maintain the unequal social structure.
