I guess you don't have to be wealthy to be happy.
One thousand years ago, there once lived a Hindu prince named Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha Grew up in Nepal, north of India, in 563 B.C. Siddhartha´s Father found a fortune teller who predicted that Siddhartha will become either a king or a religious leader. His father wanted Siddhartha to become king
Siddhartha was raised in wealth and luxury. He was never around poor, sad, or sick people because his father was so over protective. His father would tell his guards to protect Siddhartha at all times.
One time Siddhartha sneaked out and explored the outside without any guards. The first time he sneaked out he saw and old man. The second time he sneaked out he saw a shrunken diseased old man. The next day he saw a dead man and his family around him. In the last day He saw a holy man who was homeless but happy.
Once Siddhartha found out that you didn't need to be wealthy to be happy, he became an ascetic. By him being an ascetic he ate less and less. He didn't eat a lot, and when he would try to touch his stomach he touched his back bone.
When that happened he said that that was not for him so he ate food. Siddhartha decided to meditate under a fig tree. He meditated for about 49 days. He discovered enlightenment which was when he found the meaning of truth, life, death, and suffering.
Once Siddhartha reached enlightenment he decided to teach others what he experienced. So many people near and far went to Buddha so they can listen to what he says. And this is why Buddha was the enlightened one.
