Everyone move out of the way! The Prince is coming
That guy is homeless but so happy!
About 563 BC, Siddhartha Gautama was born into the royal family of Nepal. One day, Siddhartha's father meets a fortune teller who predicts Siddhartha will be a king or religious leader. Obviously, his dad wants him to be king.
Siddhartha grew up in a life of luxury and never had to experience pain or sadness. Whenever he traveled out of the palace, guards would even travel in front of him making sure there was no sick people or beggars in the way of Siddhartha. Years later, Siddhartha ended up marrying a wife and had a son. He had everything a person could ever want.
One day, he decided to go on a chariot ride without guards. As he rode along, he saw an old man leaning on a stick. He noticed a shrunken man with a disease and after him was a dying man surrounded by a sad family. He finally came upon a homeless man who was happy. Siddhartha was terrified by what he had seen but decided to be homeless as well.
Siddhartha tried to survive with the little bit of food that people brought him. He slept under a tree or slept in a cave. He began to search with Hindu Gurus who had taught him the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. Although he was not satisfied with the Gurus,so he joined a band or religious asetics for 5 years and then decided to quit.
As Siddhartha's strength began to come back, he decided to meditate under a tree for 49 days. As he meditated, he was visited by the god Mara. He saw his past lives and finally understood the cycle of life. He had reached his new life filled with desire and suffering. Siddhartha had reached enlightenment and became the Buddha.
The Buddha was visited by many people who traveled from different lands to learn the true awaking and to get advice from the Buddha.
