Hold on, Alfred. I need to talk to you about something.
Do you think I'm crazy?!? I would never do that?
You've been stealing from the store for a while now, right?
Let's see what's in your pockets then. You have a compact, a lipstick and two tubes of toothpaste.

There we go. Pretty thieving, huh?
Alfred Higgins (protagonist) is a troublemaker who constantly gets fired from his jobs. Currently, he works at a drugstore owned by a man named Sam Carr. Sam is an old man who seems to trust Alfred.
Mrs. Higgins, your son works for me. He's been stealing from my store and I'd like to talk about it.
You're a disappo-intment! Not a word about this to your father!
After closing up shop with Mr. Carr, Alfred prepares to leave. However, he is stopped by Mr. Carr. Mr. Carr confronts Alfred and asks him if he's been stealing from the store.
Due to Mr. Carr's persistence, Alfred admits to stealing from the store. He has stolen some makeup and at least 2 tubes of toothpaste. Mr. Carr reveals that he has been aware of Alfred's ever since Alfred started working at the store 6 months ago.
Mr. Carr calls Alfred's mom (Mrs. Higgins). Mrs. Higgins comes to pick up Alfred and talk to Mr. Higgins. Instead of sounding distraught, she sounds confident and smooth. Mr. Carr ends up firing Alfred instead of calling the police/sending him to jail.
I'm on my way.
Alfred and his mom head home. Since his mother is mad at him, Alfred decides to go to his room. However, he hears shuffling in the kitchen.
What's all that shuffling?
Alfred sees the weak and vulnerable state of his mother for the first time. Her hands tremble and her lips grope as she drinks her tea. Suddenly, Alfred realizes that this is his mother's true state.
