Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869. Gandhi comes from a religious hindu family, so when he was 13 he married a girl named Kasturba. He and Kasturba expected their first child when Gandhi wa 16.
India declares independence
Gandhi to England at 18 to study on how to become a lawyer. While he was there he took dance classes and tried to become a proper English man. He soon quit because he realized that he wasn't going live England his whole life. After passing his exams, he went to Pretoria to join a lawyers firm. He was kicked out of a train because a white man didn't feel comfortable sharing the first-class compartment with him.
After getting kicked off a train Gandhi noticed how Indians weren't treated fairly. Gandhi started hosting a lot of peaceful protest and strikes. He also fasted when he felt the laws were unfair. He beacme not only a social activist but a political one as well.
On march 22, 1947, Gandhi helped India declare independece from Great Britain. But fights started to break out between Hindu's and Muslim's so they divdived India in half. Gandhi held fasts in order to try to get the fight to clam down but they didn't.
On January 30, 1948, The great mahatma was shot. More than a million attended his funeral. Gandhi"s actions still continue to inspire people to this day.
