  • It is the year 2081, and everyone is equal. They were able to make this happen by using handicaps on people who are above average at anything. The characters George, who has a handicap radio in his ear that interrupts his thinking, and Hazel are a married couple and they have a son named Harrison Bergeron who was taken away from them.
  • Falling Action
  • George and Hazel were watching a television program that showed ballerinas dancing, they had weights on their legs and masks on their faces as their handicaps.The television program that they are watching is interrupted by a news bulletin. One of the ballerinas reads the bulletin and it says that Harrison Bergeron has escaped from jail and is plotting to overthrow the government.
  • Resolution
  • Harrison breaks into the television set and claims that he is emperor. He chooses one of the ballerinas as his empress and takes off both of their handicaps. He then tells the musicians to play the best music that they ever played and he started to do a real beautiful and elegant  dance with the ballerina.
  • Literary Term - Irony
  • Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, comes into the studio with a double-barreled ten-gauge shotgun and killed both, the Emperor and the Empress.
  • Hazel was crying after watching what just happened and looked to see what George's reaction was, but he got up for a can of beer. When he came back into the room he asked Hazel what was wrong and she forgot what happened. Then a really loud gun shot went off in George's handicap ear radio.
  • Irony - When the opposite of what you expect happens.
