It is the year 2081, and everyone is equal. They were able to make this happen by using handicaps on people who are above average at anything. The characters George, who has a handicap radio in his ear that interrupts his thinking, and Hazel are a married couple and they have a son named Harrison Bergeron who was taken away from them.
George and Hazel were watching a television program that showed ballerinas dancing, they had weights on their legs and masks on their faces as their handicaps. The television program that they are watching is interrupted by a news bulletin. One of the ballerinas reads the bulletin and it says that Harrison Bergeron has escaped from jail and is plotting to overthrow the government.
Harrison breaks into the television set and claims that he is emperor. He chooses one of the ballerinas as his empress and takes off both of their handicaps. He then tells the musicians to play the best music that they ever played and he started to do a real beautiful and elegant dance with the ballerina.
