In the beginning, there was only the sky above and the waters bellow. This was ruled by the mighty Orisha, the council of Gods.
One day a God named Obatala decided to create dry land. He needed a gold chain, a snails shell filled with sand, a white hen, a black cat and a palm nut.
Obatala created the land and named the land Ife. he stayed on the land with his black cat and enjoyed his creation. But after several months he became bored. He shaped figures with clay, he asked is fellow God to breathe life in to them.
