  • “Life for me ain't been no crystal stair”- life hasn't been the easiest for the mom “So boy don't you turn back”- don't give up, don't run away/change course
  • Title
  • The attitude is gentil and empowering. It is telling him to go through life and dont look back or retrace your steps
  • Poem in present tense but she tells of hardships faced in the past to her son and the lessons she had learned.
  • The poem by Hughes did mean what we thought originally with the serious talk between the two characters and it is a mother conversing with her son.
