  • The Stamp Act of 1765

  •  Hey Charlie I just bought a newspaper that got taxed!
  • The Boston Massacre
  • After the Seven Years War England was left in a large debt and to pay it all off they created taxes. Which led to all these events.
  • The Boston Massacre (continued)
  • The Stamp Act was passed because after the Seven Years War England had a very large debt so in order to raise money they began taxing items like newspapers, legal documents, diplomas and playing cards.
  • Gaspee Affair
  • It started because a group of locals were throwing rocks and hitting the soldiers with sticks because they thought they wouldn't fire but one of them "accidentally" shot a local and then they all followed. (redcoats)
  • Lexington and Concord
  • It started because a group of locals were throwing rocks and hitting the soldiers with sticks because they thought they wouldn't fire but one of them "accidentally" shot a local and then they all followed. (colonists)
  • After the HMS Gaspee got stuck, some colonists decided to take advantage of it, and shot the ship's commander. After they did that, they burned the ship to the water line. This is viewed to be the first true act of war by the colonists against England.
  • After the colonists asked the Parliament to change their ideas about the taxes, they sent British soldiers to Lexington and Concord to capture "rebel" leaders. At Lexington, the British soldiers met minutemen, and at the end, 8 colonists were dead, and 10 were wounded.
