Storyboard Text

  • Hey mom do you think that the civil war was worth it?
  • Yes, why do you ask?
  • Just wondering because we are learning about it in class and I don´t feel like it was worth the cost.
  • Why do you think that Emily? The civil war was a big part of our country's history.
  • Well, first 622,000 people were killed.  It just ended in passing a law that stopped slavery. Couldn't the president just have passed the law in the first place.
  • Yes that is true. But, do you know that 200,000 slaves were freed after the war.
  • I see your point. But, the war was supposed to bring the states together and we are still a divided country.
  •  However, it had the highest number of American casualties than any other war. A recent study put the number as high as 850,000 U.S. military deaths.
  • Yes, I do think it was necessary because it ended slavery.
  • Hey girls how was lunch?
  • Fine! Emily asked me if I think the civil war was worth the cost, what do you think?
  • You know mom I have been thinking about the civil war and I think you're right, it was worth the cost. If not for the Civil War, slavery might still be legal in the U.S. today!
  • Well I'm glad to hear that Sweetie! Now what do you want for dinner?
