An idea by Baron De Montesquieu from the year 1752, the separation of powers is used to limit parts of the governments powers. Leading to the three branches of government needing to work together to decide together on what to do about certain problems.

The Declaration of Independence, signed in the year 1776, ensured that the Colonists were free from the control of the British. Not only was this a big deal as the colonists gained independence, but it also lead to new ideas and ways for the government to work.
