In the athmosphere, carbon is attached toxygen in a gas called carbon dioxide.
Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere enters the plant leaf through stomata and water enter the leaf through the roots. the green color of the leaf is also attributed to presence of chlorophyll.
The plants traps the sunlight energy,then this energy is converted into a chemical form which is ATP.

The animal (herbivore) as heterothoph, eats the plant to get energy. As he eats the grass, he uses the glucose to take in cellular respiration which then creates ATP and carbon dioxide.
As the cow breaks down he releases CO2. This process is called respirtion
When the animal dies he releases carbon dioxide. the carbon dioxide is the dissolved in water and is used by the plants for photosynthesis.
