  • Have you heard of the term AT? Well, that acronym stands for Assistive Technology. AT is any item or piece of equipment that is used to maintain, increase or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
  • Unfortunately, people think that just because someone doesn't know how to verbally communicate that they don't know how to communicate at all. Instead of learning about individuals needs people become frustrated and that isn't very fair. We must be mindful of being kind and patient because everyone is a person first. There are so many AT that can help individuals communicate..
  • These items can be low, medium or high tech. She is using a high tech AT device. High tech devices are usually more expensive and you most likely need training to operate it. These are more complex and have digital components. They are a great way of helping people communicate their wants and needs.
