  • Justinian was a dedicated Christian. He prohibited Jews from building synagogues and reading the Bible in Hebrew.

  • Theodora was Justinian's wife. Together, they formed an unstoppable team who shared power as co-rulers.

  • Constantinople expanded to the West as its constantly attracted new people. It's strategic location on the Bosporus made it the most influential city.

  • Constantinople was also a center of trade. People from abroad to trade settled in the city.
  • In the Eastern Orthodox Church, the emperor had spiritual authority over the clergy, priests could marry. But, priests in Latin can not marry still.
