Tank Technology in World War 1.
September 15th 1916.. Battle of Flers-Courcelette
Which led to using tanks for the first time in WW1
Many broke down, but nearly a third succeeded in breaking through
They rolled over crater, ditches, and crushed through barbed wire. No one knew how to stop them
We need to keep this project secret from enemies
Ernest Swinton and william Hankey came up with the idea of an armored vehicle with conveyor-belt-like tracks over its wheels that could break through things.
We'll just tell them we're making a vehicle to carry water on the battlefield.
The purpose of tanks were to cross trenches, travel over difficult terrain, and to carry supplies.
