  • Paul and Silas met a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future on their way to a place of pryer. The slave earned a great deal of money for her owner by her ability of fortune-telling. She followed Paul and shouted to people "these men are servants of God. " She finally irritated Paul after she kept this up for many days, which resulted in Paul asked the spirit to come out of her
  • When the slave's owner knew that his slave cannot make money for him anymore due to the loss of her ability, he caught Paul and Silas and hence brought them to the magistrate saying that they will throw the city into uproar. The magistrate ordered to put them into the prison without giving a fair trial.
  • Kindly report it to you, the reverend magistrate: those two men who you arrested are roman citizens and they commit no crime.

The foundations of the prison were shaken, all prison doors flew open and everyone's chains came lose, which shocked the guard when he woke up. He wanted to commit suicide because he thought everyone has escaped. Paul stopped him and said to him, " You can be saved if you believe in God."
  • The guard took them to his home and washed their wounds. They had a meal together, which was filled with joy. The guard and his household were baptized.
  • On the other day, the guard said to Paul and Silas that they were set free by the magistrate when he received the order from the magistrate's office. However, Paul replied that he would demand the magistrate escorting them out as he and Silas were innocent. Paul's message was brought to the the magistrate and he was alarmed when he heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens.
  • The magistrate came to the prison to appease Paul and Silas and escorted them from the prison. After they came out of the prison, they went to Lydia's house and then left the city.
