  • The California Question was when California joined the Union. They were debating on whether they'd join as a free state or as a slave state.
  • Fugitive Slave Act
  • The North and South had different views on slavery. The South believed in slavery and the North did not.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin
  • The Compromise of 1850 was when California was able to enter the Union as a free state. New Mexico and Utah were created. The question of whether to allow slavery would be decided by popular sovereignty.
  • Trouble in Kansas
  • It was created so slaveholders could get back their runaway slaves.  It was a law created by the South, it allowed the South to capture slaves that ran away into the free states. It gave the South more control over slaves.
  • Written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It was written to change the view on slavery.
  • The Kansas-Nebraska act was when the U.S. decided to let the territories of Kansas and Nebraska decide for themselves if they are going to allow slavery within their borders. Bloody Kansas also was known as the Border War, was a series of violent confrontations
