The Spanish colonies of Latin America favored the Peninsulares, angering the lower classes who also opposed European control and Spain’s mercantilism. They were also influenced by the ideals of the Enlightenment and the French and American Revolutions.

The four revolutionaries, Simon, Jose, Miguel, and Toussaint helped the lower class. In hopes for a fairer social system, more political power, to separate from the imperial powers and become completely independent from Spain and Portugal
Simon Bolivar lead the creole elites in the movement for independence, crushing the Spanish army in Colombia in 1819. And by 1825 he had successfully overcome the Spanish forces and forced their existence throughout South America.
Independence At Last!!!
The Battle of Ayacucho signaled the end of Spanish rule in Latin America. This last battle secured Peru’s independence and secured the independence of the other Latin American States.
The Monroe Doctrine was to have the Americas break off and become their own official nation. It stated that there was to be no further colonization in the western hemisphere by European nations This was a huge step in the development of the Latin American states.
The Latin American Revolutions led to the independence of most Latin American States, who created their own constitutions, abolished slavery, and legally ended some social distinctions.
