"Wait Mr Teacher Man, how did the Allies get into France anyway?"
"Well Timmy the allies, America, Canada, and Britain, launched an attack on the beach of Normandy, France on June 6th 1944. This was called operation overlord, or D-Day."
“This particular invasion had 5,000 ships, 11,000 planes, and 150,000 men all attacking the heavily fortified beach.”
“Yes it is.”
“Wow. That is a lot of things for one attack.”
“When the boats hit the beach, the soldiers had to run 200 yards under heavy artillery and rifle fire. Many men died doing this, some younger than 20. By the end of the battle there were around 10,000 Allied casualties.” “That's sad. All those people, died so young. They didn't deserve it.”
"Well let me tell you Jimmy they did not die in vain. The Allies miraculously won this battle, and finally gained a foothold in the Nazi controlled fortress of Europe.”
“ The Allies liberated Paris by the end of August. After that the Allies pushed through the remainder of Nazi Controlled France, and ended up freeing France from the control of Hitler.”
“Yeah go Allies!!!!!”
“Thanks Mr Teacher Man. Now I am going to ace that test on Thursday!”
“Shortly after, the Allies and Soviets both pushed into Germany. The Nazis surrendered on May 8th 1945.”
