The beginning of The Outsiders takes place on the East SIde of town. Things are more run-down, and those who live there are poor, which is why they are referred to as "greasers."
The football field is the place Johnny was beaten badly by the Socs. From then on, Johnny carried a switchblade, and would kill the next Soc that tried to hurt him.
Ponyboy and Johnny run away together and stop at a park, where a group of Socs attack them. As one of the Socs is drowning Ponyboy, Johnny saves him by killing Bob, causing them to run away to Windrixville with the help of Dally.
Ponyboy and Johnny hide out in a church on Jay Mountain for a few days until Dally comes. They go to Dairy Queen, and when they returned, the church was on fire because they had left a lit weed. There were children trapped inside, and when Johnny and Pony go to save them, Johnny is severely injured.
Gone with the Wind
The hospital is where Johnny died due to his injuries, causing Dally to become angry and rob a grocery store. Because he robbed the store, the police came after him, and he pulled a gun as a threat, but ended up getting shot and killed.
After a while, Ponyboy manages to return to his normal life. He isn't doing well in school, though, and has to come up with a theme to write about. In his copy of Gone with the Wind, there was a letter from Johnny, which inspired him to write about his side of the whole story.
