Obviously the British didn't care we were neutral and this made Jefferson so mad that America delcared war. British captured American merchants and forced them to join the British Navy.
The British knew they obviously outnumbered us so the battle were often just another American loss, but the outcome of the war was something that we had to win if we still wanted our freedom.
At the battle in New Orleans, we were still horribly outnumbered but thanks to a strategic general, Andrew Jackson, we won when we didn't even have half the troops that the british did. We won the war because of this battle.
