• A Random NYC Street
• A Random NYC Street
• Excuse me sir, can you spare me a couple bucks, please?
• Sure thing, but on one stipulation. You must put it in an account and compound it continuously.
• A Random NYC Street
• Why, and how should I do that, sir?
• You should do it to make more money so you will be off the streets sooner. To do that, you use the equation A=Pe^rt.
• A very hungry homeless man sits on the sidewalk as a man walks by him.
• A Random NYC Street
• Can you explain? I never took Pre-Calculus because I dropped out to pursue a music career that didn't work out...
• The homeless man begs for money, but the stranger has one condition...
• A Random NYC Street
• The man, a Pre-Calculus teacher, has a plan for the homeless man, using a certain equation to find how much money he will have after a certain period of time.
• A Random NYC Street
• Then, if you wait 10 years, then plug 10 in for "t". With all of this, you get A=50e^(.15)(10). When you solve this, you'd have roughly \$224.08.
• The Pre-Calculus teacher begins to tell the homeless man his plan, first starting with the variable "P," or the initial amount.
• Sure! I'll give you \$50, which is the initial amount. You plug that in for "P".
• The Pre-Calculus teacher then tells the homeless man how to find out what to plug in for the variable "r."
• Then, if the account compounds it continuously at a rate of 15% per year, then turn it into a decimal, .15, and plug it in for "r"
• Now that they have solved for A, the homeless man is very excited to hear that he will have over \$200.
• Over \$200?! Wow, thank you, sir! I'll be rich and I won't have to eat trash!
