Storyboard Text

  • Go get that cannon back!
  • Yes sir!
  • Domingo de Ugartechea heard that the American colonists of Gonzales refused to surrender a cannon that had been given to them, so he sends Francisco de Castaneda to retrieve it.
  • Come and Take it!
  • Castaneda's troops reach the Guadalupe River and find that their path is blocked by a high water barrier and eighteen Texian soldiers. They demand to have the cannon, but the Texians refuse.
  • The Texians dug up the cannon that was previously hidden underground in the peach orchard and then mounted it onto a cart and used scrap metal because they didn't have cannonballs.
  • The Texians hoisted a flag that had a picture of the cannon on it and said "Come and Take it" in black paint.
  • On October 2nd the Texians go to battle with the Mexicans, who were outnumbered and didn't have enough weapons
  • The Texians are the victors of the Battle of Gonzales. The Battle of Gonzales is also called the Lexington of Texas comparing it to the first battle of the American Revolution.
