Madame Loisel and Mr. Loisel live in Paris, France. Madame Loisel wants to be rich and wealthy and live a luxurious life, but she lives a very normal life.

Mr. Loisel told Madame Loisel that he got an invitation to The Minister of Education, but Madame Loisel is upset that she has nothing to wear. Mr Loisel offers to pay for her dress and tells her to ask her old friend, Madame Forestier, for a necklace.
This is all Madame Forestier's fault!
Madame Forestier allowed Madame Loisel to borrow her diamond necklace.
On the way home from the party, they took a cab home. When they arrived at home, Madame Loisel realized that she lost the necklace in the cab.
They worked hard labor for 10 years to pay off their debt for buying the diamond necklace and she blames it on Madame Forestier.
Madame Loisel and Forestier ran into each other in town and Madame Loisel blamed her for everything. When Forestier asked her what she was talking about, Loisel told her about the necklace and that's when she found out that the necklace wasn't made with real diamonds.
