  • Introduction
  • Hi! I'm Monique and this is Diesel my dog. Me and Diesel will be taking you back in time and telling you about the Civil War and how it started. Come one, lets go!
  • Cause of the War
  • In the 1800's , One of the main reasons the Civil War started was slavery. The Southerners approved of slavery and the Northerners didn't and this lead to disagreements. Which was a reason that caused the Civil War.
  • Start of the War
  • Moving on, The start of the war. Since the Northerners and Southerners had different opinions about slavery this basically ripped the country apart. On April 16, 1861 the Civil War actually started.
  • The Civil War was important because it was fought for many reasons. The North and the South disagreed for a lot of things, and due to the never agreeing on anything it causes a war.
  • Union War Efforts
  • Anyways, The union headed towards the forts that had protected the city of New Orleans, and the confederacy troops are very badly armed, So then the soldiers leave the city and then the navy of the Union doc their ships and then the confederates surrender.
  • The Civil War was fought because the North and South did not agree on Slavery. The North had factories so they had their crops done by machines. The South had slaves that did their fields and crops for them. A book was published in 1852 that opened the eyes of the Northerners about slavery. They obviously didn't agree and wanted to save the slaves because they knew it wasn't okay to use human beings for hard labor.
  • Confederacy
  • In the start of the Civil War Confederate troops fired on the forts. They were going back and forth but less than about 34 hours, the Union forces had surrendered.
  • Legacy of the War
  • The Unions strategy was to attack the enemies forts. They were trying to attack and capture New Orleans but they were poorly armed and ended up retreating.
  • The Confederacy was not happy because they really wanted New Orleans because it was a major trading port. So there war strategy was to keep fighting and out last their enemy.
  • The effects the Civil War had on the United States (South Louisiana) was that it was hard because the Northerners had won and the South was probably upset because they needed slaves to do help them with their farms and crops but they couldn't do that because they lost.
