  • From 1315-1317, "The Great Famine", which is from the Russian Plains to the East, Ireland to the Alps to the South. The reasons for the famine are the climate in Europe that was constantly changing and the way how their society was organized.
  • In a feudal society, the nobility was responsible for the care of the peasants on their land. Most of the nobility did not properly care for the soil that made it hard to grow food.

  • One of the causes of The Great Famine was a disease called blight that destroyed the potato crop. Food inflation hit the towns, agriculture was destroyed, and the prices of foods began to rise.
  • The price of bread in town already increases.
  • Yes, even the prices of other foods.
  • Many people died due to hunger, malnutrition, and starvation. It was estimated that almost one million Irish people died.
  • It was horrible that many people died because of hunger.
  • We should start moving to other countries to prevent the increasing deaths here in our city.
  • Over 95% of those who left Ireland during The Great Famine traveled across the Atlantic and about 70% of all emigrants who arrived in United States settled in cities of over 100, 000.
  • Mentally, famine pictures brutal and grotesque images. Skin stretches across faces tight as a trampoline. The outline of the skull slowly emerges. Hope is gone, life is reduced to a harsh existence as famine takes its toll.
