  • Governor Charles Lawrence commanded the Acadians to sign an oath of allegiance to the British.
  • Sign  an oath of allegiance to the British!
  • Never!
  • We will sign no such oath!
  • We will remain neutral!
  • The British demanded that the Acadians would fight the French, if a war took place between the French and British, and if not, they would leave.
  • You will have to fight against the French in any war that takes place after today or you will leave!
  • No! We  will remain here at our house!
  • I don't want to lose my one and only home.
  • After refusing to sign the oath or leave, the British burned down all the property that the Acadians owned, and forced them to leave.
  • You have nothing left here! Go and never return. You are betrayers!
  • The Acadians were sent onto ship that would take them to other British colonies.
  • We'll never be happy. Our homes were taken away, now we are being deported.
  • A few years later, the British government decided to let the Acadians come back.
  • A few years later...
  • The   British goverbment has decided to let  all  former Acadians to  come back and live in  Acadia.
  • Oh! Mother, Father, I am so happy, we will get  to go back!
  • A few months later...
  • After returning to Acadia, the Acadians traveled to the properties they owned before being deported, just to find out that it was no longer their's and now they now nowhere to live.
  • How dare they  send us away and then take away our land.
