As Shawn was doing his homework he fell asleep during the middle of writing his paper. Most people would think this was because he started his homework late but in reality, he started all of his homework almost an hour after he got home.
The bill goes to committee:
On the bus the next morning Shawn and his friend Miles were talking abouth how both of them barely got any sleep because of the homework. They both decided that the amount of homework they had was unhealthy since it took away from their sleep. So, they both decided they would try to write to the government to try to make less homework a bill
Congress debates and votes:
Eventually, they got senator Cory Booker to sponsor their idea. Where he then introduce it to the senate.
The bill goes to committee where they meet and debate on whether they should accept the bill or reject it. Making some slight changes to the bill at first. They then decide to accept the bill and send it to The House so that they can go through the same process where they then make the same decision.
Once The House accepts the bill both houses come together and vote on whether it should become a law or be trashed in general. There was some debate but in the end the bill got sent to the president since majority rules.
Lastly, the bill is sent to the president where he decides if he wants to veto it or sign the bill and turn it into a law. It took him a while but after some time he decides to sign it and it becomes a law that affects the whole country.
