When the Suez Canal had closed, Libyan(our) oil boomed. The USSR bought oil from us and we supplied 30% of Europe's oil. Aroound 1970 our oil profit went to 55% .
The dictator of Libya, Gaddafi, recognized the U.S. offensive. The U.S. wanted to make airbases in Libya, but so did the Soviet Union. Since, the U.S. aided Israel's victory , Libya asked the Soviet Union to work together, causing tension between America and Libya.
Gaddafi signed contracts with the USSR to bring enigeers and military instructors to Libya. More than 11,000 soldiers participated side by side with the Libyan army. In return, many Libyan officals were sent to the Soviet Union for specialized courses.
These post-cold war decades have seen a diffusion of national security interest and threats. Many refugees are migrating to countires near the mediterran such as Libya, due to carbon emissions from nuclear bomb production. They are trying to seek shelter and employment.
When Gaddafi took over the monarchy, western powers wanted to demolish Gaddafi once and for all. However, Russia(USSR), supported his regime. Russia was his only supporter. When the USSR fell, he was exposed to threats which lead to economic crisis.
