The Second Continental Congress sent King George III the Olive Branch Petition, requesting that he fix injustices which they blamed on his ministers and proclaimed that they are still loyal to him. The king didn't even read it and sent the Proclamation for Suppressing Rebellion and Sedition, declaring the American colonists to be rebels.
We want to avoid war. Let us peacefully petition the king to redress our grievances.
The time for negotiation is over! We must fight if our rights are to be protected.
We shall now vote on the Olive Branch Petition.
That makes eight votes in favor and four opposed. I shall send the petition to the king.
The colonists have proceeded to open and avowed rebellion! This sedition must be stopped. I shall not consider their petition.
