In peacocks there are males and females and the females are attracted to the colorful tails and the bigger tails.
There are males with smaller tails and are less colorful or there are ones with bigger tails and more colorful tails.
The females are more attracted to the big colorful birds.
The trait passes down from each generation so if you mate with a male with colorful feathers and big tails your children will have those traits too.
The males with small tails and less colorful tails do not mate and therefore there genes are limited causing it to go extinct.
The birds with less colorful feathers go extinct because they could not pass down their genes causing natural selection.
