After the War Germany becomes Occupied by the Allies and is divided into zones called "Occupation Zones". Eastern Germany went to the USSR and Western Germany went to France, US, and England. They later became the Separate countries of east and west Germany. The East was Communist and the west was Democratic.
During the war the US didn't want communism to spread from where it already was, so they created the policy of containment. They created the Truman doctrine which gave $400 million dollars to Eastern Europe and the Marshall plan which gave $12.5 billion dollars to Western Europe.
Cuban Missile Crisis
After WWII the USSR turned all of the nations they freed from Germany into communist nations which became known as satellite nations. These nations Yugoslavia, Romania, Czechoslovakia, and Poland.
End of the USSR
The USSR supported the communist side of Korea and the US supported the Democratic side of Korea. Korea was divided into North and South Korea by the 38th Parllel. In 1950 North Korea invaded South Korea. The United nations and United states sent troops to South Korea to help. North Korea was pushed back and a ceasefire was signed.
In 1962 a US spy plane saw the soviets unions missiles in Cuba. President JFK tarted a Naval blockade. JFK demanded that the Soviet union removes their missiles. Was peacefully resolved by the United Nations. US removed missiles from turkey and Soviet union removes missiles from Cuba.
In 1987 Gorbachev adopts democratization which allowed people to elect their government. Satellite nations began to demand their independence. Soviet union officially ended in 1991 and became Russia again.
