Storyboard Text

  • The atmosphere, the envelope of gas surrounding earth, is an example of a reservoir, a source of something.
  • Carbon enters the atmosphere by respiration, organisms breathing, combustion, the process of burning something, or decomposition and decay, the process of something rotting.
  • Hello, this is Jack and today we will be discussing the carbon cycle, a biogeochemical cycle because it explains how carbon moves around the earth.
  • The next step of the carbon cycle is photosynthesis. This is when sunlight is transformed into food by plants, known as producers.
  • Then, carbon transfers from biotic, or living, organisms when they eat each other.
  • Finally, plants and animals die and are eaten by decomposers. The carbon respired by the decomposers is released back into the atmosphere.
  • Humans affect this cycle by burning fossil fuels, which releases carbon into the atmosphere.
  • The ocean, large body of the sea, behind me is an example of a carbon sink because it easily absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
  • The last reservoir for carbon is fossil fuels, natural fuels found in dead organisms.
  • Now you know about the carbon cycle. Hope you enjoyed!
