In the exposition, Adeline introduces her family and rough life in China. She is blamed for her mother's death and is treated to be unwanted and uncared for. Only loved by Aunt Baba.
In the rising action, everyone moves to Niang's house and Niang drops a boulder of rules on their shoulders. Niang treats them horribly compared to her real children.
The conflict of the story is Niang (Man vs. Man.) She ruins her self-esteem and calls her unwanted. She hit her at one point and treats her like a stray dog. If Niang was out of the picture, her life would be extremely better.
To me, the climax was when YeYe died. Because to Adeline, he was the only person who believed in her and when he died, she was hurt the most.
The falling action is Adeline continuing her life and living in Niang's house with her siblings. Adeline is forced to get a job by Niang at age fourteen and she hears news about her brothers going to England for college.
And finally, the resolution is Adeline being granted the permission to go to England to study. After asking her father while he was in a good mood if she can go to England to study in college, she's granted the ability and escapes the control of Niang.
