Storyboard Text

  • If the greeks had been defeated, their culture might have been lost forever. 
  • Persian Wars
  • The persian wars were all the conflict between persia inn the 5th century occupied large territories. From northern Africa to the middle east to even a pat of India. 
  • Darius put his General Datis in charge of an army numbering 900,000 men.
  • Battle of Marathon
  • The Greeks commanded a total force of only between 10,000 and 20,000.
  • The arrows were not well mde and light which caused the greeks to win.
  • Battle of Thermopylae
  • The persians defeated the spartans at Thermopylae. A traitor helped the persians attack the Greeks in discreet manner. King Leonidas dismisses his troops and only keeps  300 men to stay and fight until the end, sadly the Greeks lost and the Persians won. 
  • Themistocles of Athens devised a plan to attack Persian's ship. The athenian's lured the Persians into the strait of Salamis, a strait is a  narrow sea between two landmasses. The Persian ships were too big to move around, however the Athenians ships were too small enough to move smoothly around in the strait of salamis and to  trap the Persians and sanks 300 Persian ships. The Greeks won this battle. 
  • The Greeks city-states come together even stronger and formed the largest army yet. The Greeks fight the Persian one last time at  the battle of Plataea, with over 100, 000 soldiers on each side, the  Greeks defeated the Persian army. 
  • Persians no longer had any control of any Greek city-states. Persia and the Greek city states eventually find peace with each other. The Persian Empire decided and weekend shortly after.
