The setting takes place in a diner in Maine where in the diner there is a time portal, capable of going back in time for 2 minutes. When they go back in time, they go all the way back to 1958 where most of the story is played out.
Jake Epping is a literature teacher in Maine. He has been tasked by an old student to go back in time to save President Kennedy from assassination. By doing this, he slowly tracks the movement of the assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald
Lee Harvey Oswald is the main antagonist in the novel. He was known for assassinating the president. He was a marine for the united states.
One conflict shown in this novel is Man vs Man. This is shown when Jake and Sadie go to confront Oswald and a gun fight breaks out. Luckily, Jake shoots and kills Oswald.
Another conflict shown is Man vs Self. This is shown when in the heat of gun fire, Jake accidentally shoots his friend Sadie and kills her. Though he did kill the enemy as well, he has to live with the guilt of killing his friend.
Oops, everyone makes mistakes!
The literary term I have chosen is flashback. In the very start of the novel, there is a flash back, of when Jake was grading papers in school.
