Cyrus the great or Cyrus the Second of Persia was the first king of the Persian empire.
This seems like a great place to have an empire.
This place sucks.
First, Cyrus had to consolidate his power over the Iranian tribes
So here's the deal, I become your king and you become part of my empire.
Next, seeing that the people of Babylon being unsatisfied with their king, Cyrus decided to take advantage of the situation and take the city and free the oppressed peoples.
My king, Babylon is ripe for the taking, everyone in the city hates their king.
Well than, let's go take it.
Cyrus than set all the jews who lived under oppression free.
You're all free. You're welcome.
This is what freedom is.
What set the Cyrus apart from all other leaders was his tolerance for others and refusing to oppress those he conquered.
Can we oppress the people we conquered now?
Cyrus was killed in battle on December 4th 530 BC. He built one of the greatest and largest empires to every exist in the entire world and would stay like that for around 200 years until Alexander the Great takes over the entire empire.
