Storyboard Text

  • Pick a scene that supports the idea that although beaten down, the prisoners had creative ways of coping with their confinement and sustaining themselves. They had support during the selection because people were telling them to run and make it look like they have color to make sure that they look like hard workers so that they could live longer.
  • In lines 32-33, Wiesel writes, "the old men stated in their corner, silent, motionless, hunted-down creatures. Some were praying."Which words in this quotation have strong connotations? How do these words convey the tone of Wiesel's narrative? Silent, motionless, hunted-down creatures are words that describe what it would be like to be there and the people during that time.
  • Wisel sometimes uses punctuation and sentence structure to convey meaning. Reread the second to last paragraph in the text. Why does he use short, incomplete sentence ? How does this stylistic approach affect meaning? He uses short incomplete sentences because he is trying to make it brief and short to make it like how it was and he is trying to explain it to us so that if feels like we were there experiencing it.
