Your son will become a king, or a religious leader.
Siddhartha Gautama, otherwise known as the Buddha, was born a prince in Nepal in 563 B.C. Siddhartha's father meets with a fortune teller who says Siddhartha will be a king or religious leader. Of course, Siddhartha's father wants him to be king.
If I am not satisfied with being a guru or ascetic, than what should I be?
Siddhartha was born living a life of luxury without experiencing pain or sadness. His father protected him from anything unpleasant and was always with guards. Later on, Siddhartha got married and had a son.
I am Mara, and I demand you to stop your search!
Siddhartha went on his chariot without any guards. On his ride, Siddhartha passed an old man, a diseased man, a man who died, and a crying family. Siddhartha then realized that everything isn't perfect. Then, Siddhartha saw a holy man, and wanted to be like him.
Are you an angel?
Are you a god?
No, I am awake.
Are you a saint?
Siddhartha lived off the land and food people gave him. He then decided to study with Hindu gurus, but wasn't satisfied, so he became an ascetic. Siddhartha was not pleased with being an ascetic because it was clear to him that being an ascetic was not the path to truth, so he stopped being one.
Siddhartha meditated under a tree (Tree of Knowledge), to find an answer. The god Mara tempted Siddhartha to give up his search, but Siddhartha never gave up his search. Finally, Siddhartha reached enlightenment, where he could stop being born and reach Nirvana.
Siddhartha decided he did not want to reach Nirvana because he wanted to teach others about awakening the world to escape suffering. People come from all over the world to speak to Buddha. Sadly, Buddha died at 80 years old, but people still worship him.
