According to "The Problem of Plastic", plastic is in our books we read, shampoo bottles, toothpaste tubes, and even the apples from the store are put into plastic bags before you buy them. But some plastic can't be easily recycled or it isn't sorted properly therefore harming the environment.
"The Problem of Plastic" also states that 9 million tons of plastic trash end up in the ocean each year. The damage is so devastating that many sea creatures accidentally eat plastic thinking it is food. With their stomachs filled with plastic and no room for actual food, these sea creatures may starve. Even some sea creatures get caught or entangled in the plastic and according to scientists, they estimate that over 700 marine species have been harmed by plastic.
According to "Can We Save Our Planet From Plastic?", 349 cities, counties, and states have banned or taxed the use of plastic bags in stores. There is also a new service called Loop and will package and deliver items in reusable containers made of glass or metal instead of plastic. They will also take any reusable items back to the factory to be cleaned, refilled, and sent out again. For example, Loop will have someone pick up your empty shampoo bottle if you say it is empty and will bring it back to the factory to be cleaned, refilled, and sent back out to be reused.
