In 1965, Communist leader Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife set up a dictatorial regime in Romania. The communist leader began to rule Romania with an iron grip, using secret police to get rid of all of his opposers. Because of this, his regime began to grow.
This Communist leaders economic policies were not very successful and led to a sharp drop in living standards, which included food shortages. Civilians of Romania did not like his plan of RAPID urbanization. They were highly angered, mostly because one of his programs called for bulldozing the whole villages.
In flames of anger, one day the secret police murdered thousands of peacefully protesting people. Because of this, Ceausescu and his wife were executed on December 25. A new government was instantly formed and because of the civilians anger, the Berlin Wall was torn down. The reunification of Germany finally happened to form one in 1990.
