The narrator's parents had another baby boy. his name was William Armstrong but his brother (narrator ) called him Doodle. Doodle wasn't "normal" he was sopped to die.He stayed in the front room til they thought it was fine.
Brother wanted a normal brother so he could play with him. he wanted to run and jump and climb vines in old swamp.
brother had an idea that he would teach doodle to walk. He pulled him down to old women's swamp and they practiced for several days until doodle was able to walk smoothly. They went home and surprised everyone
one day the family just finished lunch and they were looking outside and they saw an unusual bird. brother went and got his dads bird identification book. They figured out what it was and it was far away from its home. they imagined the the storm blew him here. doodle went to touch it and mom said no but doodle took the bird and buried it.
brother and doodle went down to the river. they got in a row boat.while they were on the river they could see the dry black clouds starting to build. doodle paddled faster and harder to get back to the dock. doodle and brother got out and started walking back to the house . doodle was hitting brothers hills so he started running. doodle fell and brother left him. brother went back an doodle was dead.
brother and family was very upset of the passing of doodle.
