  • Do you know who Harold Amos is?
  • Harold Amos was born September 7, 1918 in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
  • He studied biology and chemistry at Springfield College in Springfield Massachusetts. He graduated with honors in 1941.
  • After college, Harold joined the US army in 1942 and he arrived in France six days after the Normandy invasion. He was discharged from the army in 1946. 
  • Are you hurt?
  • Yes. Please help me.
  • After the army he studied at Harvard Medical School and earned his PhD in 1952. He was the first African American to receive that honor. He later became a Professor there.
  • Over his lifetime Harold Amos made many important discoveries in microbiology. He inspired thousands of minorities to become medical doctors. 
  • That's so cool! Maybe I should think about becoming a scientist.
