  • The Continental Congress was a convention of delegates called together from the Thirteen Colonies. It became the governing body of the United States during the American Revolution. 
  • Lexington and Concord was the first battle of the Revolutionary War.  British troops had moved from Boston toward Lexington and Concord to seize the colonists' military supplies and arrest revolutionaries.
  • The Second Continental Congress was a convention of delegates from the Thirteen Colonies that started meeting in the spring of 1775 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It succeeded the First Continental Congress, which met in Philadelphia between September 5, 1774, and October 26, 1774.
  • The battle of Bunker Hill was the first big battle of the Revolutionary War. The British drove the Americans from their fort at Breed'sHill to Bunker Hill, but only after the Americans had run out of gunpowder.
  • The Battle of New York was fought on August 27, 1776, and was the first major battle of the American Revolutionary War to take place after the United States declared its independence on July 4, 1776.
