Cod fisheries on the coast of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia were benificial for FN and Europeans. No permanent settlemnents were built there yet.
France and FN traded well, but France was at war with the Haudenosaunee, which was the end of the Oendat. That brought new middlemen (Coureur de bois) and Catholic missionaries
As the trade moved farther west, more middlemen and voyaguers appeared to help deliver goods on longer trade routes. Franclophines and Scottish Metis emerged at the cross of the french and british trade.
The NWC was created by British merchants to compete with the HBC, they were all trying to move far westward
Now that we are the NWC, we have to get farther west before the HBC!
Britain and France were at war. The Metis were valued as interpreters, guides, etc.
The metis started to trade with the Americans, which caused the HBC to lose control of the monopoly. The HCB and NWC merged together, but the demand for furs in Europe, as well as beaver and game, decreased.
We can't find any beaver! we've looked everywhere!
