  • Sargon of Akkad
  • Without my battle strategies, we will never be able to defeat and kill our enemies!!!
  • Yikes, that's harsh.
  • Babylonian Empire
  • I maintain irrigation systems like this one so that my people have enough food.
  • Assyrian Empire
  • ONWARD!!!
  • OH NO!!!
  • Sargon conquered Sumer in 2300 B.C.E. Sargon created an army that was trained to work in different formations that proved effective. Sargon used political strategies like breaking down the walls of other city-states, making them defenseless. Sargon's name passed into legend because he had created the world's first empire.
  • Neo-Babylonian Empire
  • I ruled from 605-561 B. C. E., being a ruthless military leader.
  • Babylonia thrived under the rule of Hammurabi. Hammurabi worked hard to maintain irrigation systems so that his people had enough food. The Babylonians had unusually fair laws for their time. Babylonian women had more rights here than in any other ancient societies.
  • Hammurabi
  • I think I'm going to start making laws for my people. I'll call them Hammurabi's code.
  • The Assyrians lived in Mesopotamia for a long time until Hammurabi took over, but they rose to power again in 900 B.C.E. Their greatest achievements were their army and their battle strategies but they feared for their army might and cruelty. They also made 2D sculptures called bas-reliefs. The Assyrian Empire lasted for about 300 years.
  • Hammurabi's Code
  • I have finally finished my first stele.
  • The Babylonians took control over Mesopotamia after the fall of Nineveh. King Nebuchadnezzar II was a ruthless military leader that ruled from 605-561 B.C.E. He worked very hard during when he ruled to to rebuild the city's ziggurat. The Babylonian Empire only lasted 75 years until Cyrus came from the east and swept Babylon.
  • Hammurabi became the next leader after Sargon. He was best known for his code of laws which he wrote while he was ruling from 1792-1750 B.C.E. He made Hammurabi's Code because he wanted to become organized and maintain his authority.
  • Hammurabi's Code was very detailed, covering many different situations. These code of laws were written 3,768 years ago. Hammurabi claimed he got authority from the sun god, Samash and reinforces his power. These laws were also created so that people accepted his authority. There were severe consequences for anyone who didn't follow the laws.
