Curly could not adapt so he was killed. This is an example of survival of the fittest. Since Curly was to nice and wasn´t tough enough he didn´t survive. On page 14-15 it says, "There was no warning, only a leap in like a flash, a metallic clip of teeth, a leap out equally swift, and Curly's face was ripped open from eye to jaw." This is when Curly got attacked by a wild dog and died.

Mercedes also started crying when they threw out all the food and this is an example of survival of the fittest because she wasn't being tough. On page 55 paragraph 13 Mercedes said, "oh, Hal, you mustn't throw out all the food!" as she continued to cry.
Buck showed the survival of the fittest when he was fighting with the Indians because he kept fighting even though they where trying to shoot him with the arrows. Buck killed the Indians because they hurt the people he loved.
