Ancient Sumerians built levees, Dams and canals to keep the water from flowing and ruining the crops. They also built really complex irrigation systems as well. Plows are turning soil for planting. It effected agriculture because it was easier for Sumerians to plant crops faster.
Here we have a scribe walking into his office where he writes laws, bills and other important things. A scribes job is to do lots of writing but theres other jobs to in the government to. Merchants make money by selling goods and artisans are known for there pieces of art. sumerians had a very sucsesfull government. but the sumerian king was the most sucsesfull.
Behind me here is the ziggurat. a ziggurat is a place where sumerians go to worship there god. Sumerians are very religious and alway try todo things that Benefit what they believe in. another thing about ziggurats is that they have long stairs that lead to the shrine where sumerians will go and pray. sumerians made statues to represent there religion.
One of the most famous art pieces was the lyre. the lyre was a small harp shaped like a bull. Many sumerians believed that music was one of the most arts that brought joy. an important part in the arts is metal workers. Metal worker make metals, cups and decorative things.
The device i'm in right now is called a wheel, its very similar to a car but sumerians used these to get places before cars were invented. Another cool invention were the sledges. sledges were objects sumerians dragged around so they can put there stuff in the sledge.
Writing was a very important thing to sumerians back then. They used pictographs and cuneiform. Cuneiform is writing that uses wedge-shaped characters to express there feelings.Pictographs were symbols that stand for different objects.
