  • You will tell the court how that poppet come her eand who stuck a needle in.
  • She told you!?
  • She'll kill me for sayin' that and Abby will charge lechery on you
  • Good. Then her saintliness is done with.
  • I cannot. I cannot!
  • John Proctor tells Mary that she will have to go to court and tell them how the poppet got inside their house and who stuck the needle in it.
  • Mary explains to Proctor that if she goes to court to tell who put the needle in, Abigail will kill her and she'll also charge him for lechery.
  • She never saw no spirits, sir
  • Proctor decides that he will sacrifice the truth coming out about his affair so that his wife isn't accused of witchcraft but Mary still is afraid of what will happen if she goes against Abigail.Proctor does not take no for an answer and demands that she has to go.

  • Most likely the next day...
  • Mary and proctor go to court to tell Judge Danforth the truth. Mary is asked what she needs to say but says nothing so Proctor tells him that she hasn't been seeing or feeling any evil spirits.
  • Proctor is questioned by Danforth as to why he has come here. Cheever, Hale, Parris, Giles also add some comments in about Proctor, and whether or not he should be trusted.
  • Danforth: You are in all aspects a gospel Christian?
  • Parris: Such a Christian but does not come to church but once a month!
  • Cheever: He plow on Sunday, sir.
